JOIN SIMON'S SAUNTER
A Pilgrim walk
This year the Battle of Evesham Festival will be held over three days and will include a replica of Kenilworth Castle in the Battle Arena.
Kenilworth Castle was the headquarters of Simon de Montfort and it was from here that his son, Simon, set off with the remains of the army already ravaged by Edward to join forces with his father in Evesham. Local legend informs us that young Simon stopped off in Alcester for breakfast and by doing so, he missed the battle.
To reenact this unfortunate event in history we are undertaking a Pilgrimage Walk from Kenilworth to Evesham to follow in young Simon’s footsteps. The walk will be over three days:
Wednesday 30 July – Kenilworth to Wootton Wawen 12½ miles
Thursday 31 July – Wootton Wawen to Bidford-on-Avon 11½ miles (with a brief stop off in Alcester for victuals)
Friday 1 August – Bidford-on-Avon to Evesham 9½ miles
We will arrive at the Battle Field at approximately 2.30 pm to be welcomed by the battle reenactors.
There will be a minibus from Evesham each day to transport pilgrims to and from the walk.
We are looking for fourteen pilgrims to join us. If you are interested please get in touch via the Contact Form. Add the word Pilgrim in the subject section and indicate if you wish to complete the whole walk or participate on certain days.
